A leading professional services firm is currently looking for a seasoned, dynamic & agile leader to take up the Accounting & Controlling Manager role to manage their South East Asia (SEA) operations, based in Kuala Lumpur.

about the job
You will provide support and leverage to the Finance Director in managing the accounting operations and will be an integral member of the finance team responsible for the accounting operations, providing financial and statutory expertise and oversight in audit, tax, reporting and risk management. Additionally, the individual will support the Finance Director in leading new initiatives to ensure the accounting operations continue to evolve to address the changing business needs and will also support the annual planning process, forecasting and management reporting.

  • Overall responsibility for the accounting function for SEA region
  • Managing the local Accounts Payable and General Ledger functions
  • Mentoring and developing the accounting team and fostering a positive working environment
  • Risk Management, in collaboration with Finance Director, ensure there are appropriate internal control and compliance with local tax, legal and other regulatory requirements and where needed implement global risk management procedures
  • Responsible for overseeing the preparation of the statutory financial statements of SEA entities. Lead the local audit and liaise with the finance team in preparing all required documentation and schedules and with the auditors and Global Accounting team.
  • Provide support during internal & external audits and ensure compliance with local statutory and US GAAP accounting requirements, proactively monitor changes in the regulatory landscape
  • Manage the month-end closing process, review monthly reconciliations and highlight areas of risk
  • Building and formalizing various finance and accounting policies
  • Provide timely and meaningful reporting, planning, analysis, CAPEX & tax forecasts to management and Global Accounting Services
  • Provides meaningful cost analysis and help to identify and recommend on cost reductions
  • Oversee the Country Accountants for timely completion of tax returns, filings and planning
  • Work with SEA Tax Manager and SEA Mobility & Payroll Manager to ensure corporate, indirect taxes and wage tax compliance
  • Treasury management which includes monitoring the short and long term cash position of the company

skills & experience required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance, with professional qualification preferred.
  • At least 12 years of general accounting experience, preferably in a professional services and international environment. Big Four or audit background preferred.
  • Knowledge of statutory reporting, US GAAP financial reporting and tax
  • Experience in managing a mid to large team size
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people, different cultures, styles and all levels of staff
  • Customer focused, professional and confident manner
  • Strong organization skills, orientation to detail and resourcefulness
  • Pro-active, willing to take initiative and responsibility, seeks continuous improvement
  • Ability to work under time constraints and produce accurate results
  • Excellent analytical capabilities and numerical reasoning
