Our client is a rapidly growing hotel management company with an impressive portfolio of projects across Malaysia. They are now looking for an experienced Design Director with track record of managing hotel developments, to take on a key role within their business.

about the role

This position is responsible to provide design guidance and submittal approval for all new hotel developments and existing hotels (CapEx and owners CapEx) renovation projects across the Group. The role works closely with Shareholders and Firm Leadership to establish design direction and key Brand identity elements. Clearly communicates to outside design professionals to establish Brand design requirements. Acts as the primary point of contact for Group Design and reports to the CEO

about the manager / team

The reporting manager is a hands on person who has been in the industry for a significant amount of time. Style of the manager is autonomous, macro-management and believes in delivering results with minimal supervision. The team operates in a high performance environment and thrives under the management style.


  • Registered qualified architect or Degree educated Interior designer with strong planning skills and understanding of hotel spaces, facilities and interior design. Or equivalent qualification.
  • Extensive experience in hospitality design
  • Either currently working for or have worked for major international hotel company in similar capacity, OR major design or management role in architects or interior designers’ office on hotel and large mixed-use developments.
  • Ability to work with and gain respect and trust of third party Owner/Developers architects, interior designers, engineers, contractors and across the Company
  • Flexibility and sensitivity in method of dealing with various people, personalities, cultures.
  • Willing and able to take responsibility and work for multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to endure extensive travel, required on supporting projects under development, or hotels undergoing renovation, across Asia, Europe and Australia.
  • Strong design background and proficiency with AutoCAD, along with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Photoshop and InDesign;
  • Strong knowledge of FF+E, furniture detailing, construction methods and materials.
  • Ability to see, develop and take responsibility of multi discipline design/planning solutions;
  • Able to work independently and possess good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Fluent English
