About the Client
We are representing a leading industrial equipment manufacturer based in Malaysia, specializing in the design, engineering, fabrication, inspection, and testing of ASME-compliant equipment. Their core product range includes unfired pressure vessels, shell and tube heat exchangers, hoppers, silos, storage tanks, screw conveyors, and pneumatic conveying systems. As part of their continuous growth, they are expanding their engineering function by building out a standardized, automated drafting library to optimize drawing consistency and reduce manual design efforts across project teams.
Position Overview
The Senior Drafting Engineer / CAD Engineer will lead the creation, review, and standardization of technical drawings while taking full ownership of a parametric, iLogic-driven drafting library. Utilizing Autodesk Inventor's rule-based programming (iLogic) alongside iParts, iAssemblies, iFeatures, and Content Center standardization, the successful candidate will automate repetitive drawing workflows for core product lines.
This is not a purely execution-based drafting role. The ideal candidate possesses an automation mindset—proactively identifying repetitive drafting tasks and creating rules, templates, or library components to eliminate manual effort. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will establish CAD/drafting standards and mentor junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
Design Automation & iLogic Development (Core Focus)
- Own the development, implementation, and maintenance of an Inventor-based design automation library using iLogic rules, forms, iParts, iAssemblies, and iFeatures.
- Write and test iLogic scripts to auto-generate models and drawings from parametric inputs (e.g., vessel diameter, shell length, nozzle layout, tube count).
- Standardize Content Center libraries and drawing templates (including title blocks, BOM/parts lists, and standard views) for company-wide implementation.
- Manage version control for library components to keep assets organized, accessible, and audit-ready.
- Continuously identify and eliminate repetitive or error-prone drafting tasks through proactive automation initiatives.
Drafting & Engineering Support
- Create, review, and modify detailed technical drawings, schematics, and general arrangement drawings for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, silos/hoppers, and conveying systems.
- Ensure strict compliance with ASME codes (Section VIII), customer specifications, and internal drafting standards.
- Produce and audit fabrication-ready drawings, including nozzle orientations, tube layouts, GD&T callouts, and welding symbols.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, and QA/QC teams to ensure drawings are constructible and inspection-ready.
Quality, Mentorship & Standards
- Conduct quality reviews on drawing packages before official release.
- Maintain accurate documentation and revision control for all drawing files and library assets.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior drafters and CAD engineers regarding standards and automated tools.
- Report library development milestones and project progress to the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field (Candidates holding a Diploma with a strong, demonstrated portfolio of iLogic/automation work will also be considered).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of drafting/CAD experience within mechanical or industrial fabrication (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, or bulk handling equipment highly preferred).
- iLogic Expertise: At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience specifically writing and deploying Autodesk Inventor iLogic rules.
- Library Management: Proven track record of developing and maintaining parametric design libraries (iParts, iAssemblies, iFeatures, Content Center).
- Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (required). AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience is an advantage.
- Codes & Standards: Solid working knowledge of ASME Section VIII and related fabrication standards.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of GD&T and welding symbols applied to fabrication drawings.
- Additional Tech Skills: Exposure to general scripting/programming (VB.NET, Python, VBA) or PDM/Vault automation is a plus.
- Leadership: Prior experience guiding, training, or mentoring junior team members is advantageous.
