This is a pioneering role designed to bridge the gap between traditional auditing, accounting, technology, sustainability, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). You will be at the forefront of the firm's transformation, identifying and deploying AI-driven solutions that drastically enhance audit quality, productivity, technical research, and knowledge management. You will collaborate closely with partners, software vendors, and audit teams to promote the practical adoption of these emerging tools and champion the firm's technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit Technical Advisory: Serve as the firm’s subject matter expert by providing authoritative technical consultations to audit teams on complex accounting (MFRS/IFRS) and auditing (ISA) issues. Perform pre-issuance technical reviews of complex financial statements and ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements (AOB, MIA, Companies Act 2016, and Bursa Malaysia).
- Audit Methodology & Quality Management: Champion and continuously enhance the firm's audit methodology, manuals, and standardized working papers. Oversee the practical implementation of ISQM 1 & 2, conduct internal quality inspections, perform root cause analysis on audit deficiencies, and ensure all audit practices are agile and aligned with the latest local and global standards.
- ESG Audit Technical & Assurance: Spearhead the technical development of the firm’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) assurance capabilities. Provide technical guidance on sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., IFRS S1 & S2, GRI, ISSB, Bursa Malaysia ESG guidelines) and develop robust methodologies for ESG assurance engagements (such as ISSA 5000).
- AI Transformation: Lead the firm's AI initiatives within the Audit & Assurance practice by evaluating emerging technologies, developing internal AI tools (like prompts and knowledge repositories), and conducting proof-of-concept testing.
- Workflow Automation: Actively identify strategic opportunities to automate audit procedures, documentation, and overall workflow processes, integrating them seamlessly into the firm's updated methodology.
- Knowledge & Governance: Develop AI-assisted knowledge databases and technical training materials (covering accounting, methodology, and ESG updates) for the firm, while simultaneously developing AI governance policies to mitigate risks related to data privacy and confidentiality.
Key Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Accounting & Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CPA, MICPA, ICAEW) is highly preferred.
- Experience: 5 to 8 years (Manager) or 8 to 12 years (Senior Manager) of relevant experience, with a strict minimum of 3 years in external audit. Prior experience in a Quality Assurance, Technical, or Methodology department within a mid-tier or Big 4 firm is highly advantageous.
- Technical Audit & Methodology Skills: Strong, proven working knowledge of ISA, ISQM 1 & 2, MFRS/IFRS, the Companies Act 2016, and Bursa Malaysia requirements. Experience in conducting quality reviews and translating complex standards into practical audit methodologies.
- ESG Acumen: Familiarity with, or a strong willingness to rapidly master, sustainability/ESG reporting and assurance standards (e.g., ISSA 5000, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, GRI).
- Tech & AI Proficiency: While you do not need to be a programmer, you must demonstrate practical use of AI tools (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Gemini), AI prompting techniques, and Advanced Excel.
- Attributes: An innovative, self-driven professional who continuously explores emerging technologies, challenges traditional approaches, and can confidently influence and train audit teams.
