Fabrication Manager - Metal Design & Production

Our client is a growing specialist in metal and panel fabrication seeking a hands-on, technically adept Fabrication Manager to establish, lead, and grow their fabrication operations. This is an exceptional opportunity for an entrepreneurial production professional who thrives on building operational systems from the ground up, solving complex technical challenges, and leading a dedicated production team. You will take ownership of the entire fabrication lifecycle—from initial client inquiry and engineering design to production execution, quality assurance, and after-sales support.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
- Review client enquiries, technical specifications, drawings, and electrical schematics.
- Design and develop metal enclosures, control and power panels, brackets, trays, and related metalwork.
- Prepare detailed fabrication drawings, 3D models, flat patterns, and DXF files using Autodesk Inventor Professional.
- Generate accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs), material take-offs, and cost estimates to support the quotation process.
Production & Operations
- Establish and continuously improve the company's production workflow and overall fabrication operations.
- Plan and actively supervise fabrication activities, including cutting, bending, drilling, tapping, fit-up, welding, grinding, and polishing.
- Coordinate material sourcing and work directly with procurement and suppliers regarding quality, pricing, and lead times.
- Supervise, and perform when required, panel assembly and electrical wiring.
- Support delivery logistics, customer inspections, troubleshooting, and after-sales rectification.
Quality Control & Team Leadership
- Ensure all finished products strictly adhere to approved drawings, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.
- Conduct in-process and final quality inspections, functional testing, and compile Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) documentation.
- Maintain accurate production records, material traceability, and inspection reports.
- Recruit, train, and develop fabrication personnel to maximize productivity, workmanship, and efficiency.
- Strictly enforce workshop safety protocols, good housekeeping, and PPE usage.
Requirements
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Fabrication Technology, or a closely related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant, hands-on experience in metal fabrication, panel fabrication, or manufacturing.
- Technical Skills:
- Mandatory proficiency in Autodesk Inventor Professional for designing fabrication drawings, flat patterns, DXF files, and BOMs.
- Deep practical experience with stainless steel and mild steel, focusing on enclosures, panels, brackets, and supports.
- Strong hands-on capability in cutting, bending, drilling, tapping, and welding.
- Ability to accurately read electrical schematics and panel layout drawings.
- Operational Knowledge: Solid understanding of production planning, material sourcing, costing, FAT, material traceability, and workshop safety standards.
- Attributes: Strong leadership, clear communication, and problem-solving skills, paired with a willingness to work hands-on to build the operation from the ground up.
