Job Description: Finance & Costing Manager
Position Title: Finance & Costing Manager
Industry: Manufacturing & Regional Trading / Distribution
Location: Klang Valley, Malaysia
Employment Type: Full-time (Senior Management)
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Finance Director
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, analytical, and commercially minded Finance & Costing Manager to lead both our regional commercial operations and our manufacturing plant finance function. Based in the Klang Valley, this pivotal role will oversee two key financial pillars: the trading office finance for Malaysia and Singapore, as well as the plant cost accounting and plant financial operations.
Supported by strong, established teams of accountants in both the trading and plant divisions, you will drive accurate cost allocation, optimize trading margins, ensure cross-border tax compliance, and serve as a business partner to plant operations and regional commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plant Costing & Manufacturing Finance Operations
Oversee standard costing, product cost analysis, variance analysis (materials, labor, overheads), and inventory valuation across manufacturing operations.
Partner with Plant Managers and Production Heads to identify yield losses, waste drivers, and cost-saving opportunities across production lines.
Manage plant-level budgeting, forecasting, capital expenditure (CAPEX) evaluations, and payback analysis for factory upgrades.
Lead regular physical inventory counts, stock reconciliations, and audit routines across plant warehouses.
2. Regional Trading Operations (Malaysia & Singapore)
Manage the full-spectrum financial operations, cash flow, working capital, and commercial performance of trading operations in Malaysia and Singapore.
Oversee intercompany transactions, transfer pricing compliance, cross-border billings, and FX risk exposure between the MSIA and SG entities.
Ensure strict adherence to local statutory requirements, including SST (Malaysia), GST (Singapore), corporate income tax, and statutory reporting in both jurisdictions.
Conduct margin analysis by product line, customer segment, and market channel to guide sales strategies.
3. Team Leadership & Financial Control
Direct, mentor, and elevate the performance of existing, high-performing accounting teams across both the plant finance and trade finance units.
Streamline financial close processes (monthly, quarterly, year-end) across both divisions to ensure timely consolidated management accounts.
Strengthen internal controls, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and governance frameworks across both plant floors and regional trading operations.
Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies in both Malaysia and Singapore.
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
Professional Certification: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting and professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, MIA, or equivalent). CIMA holders are highly encouraged given the strong costing focus.
Experience: Minimum 8–10+ years of relevant experience, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial capacity overseeing manufacturing/plant finance.
Dual Exposure: Proven experience handling plant cost accounting (standard vs. actual costing) alongside commercial/trading entity financial management.
Cross-Border Knowledge: Familiarity with cross-border trade finance, transfer pricing guidelines, and taxation frameworks across Malaysia (SST, LHDN) and Singapore (GST, IRAS).
System Proficiency: High proficiency in major enterprise ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365) with strong knowledge of plant manufacturing modules and multi-currency consolidations.
Leadership Style: Strong leadership presence with a track record of driving efficiency through established teams; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
