A leading precision engineering firm is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the conceptualization and development of customized mechanical components, specifically focusing on jigs, fixtures, and springs. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between engineering design, project management, and customer relations. This role requires a hands-on technical professional capable of generating end-to-end solutions—from initial client consultation and CAD modeling to CAD/CAM post-processing and occasional CNC machine operation.
Core ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Development
- Custom Tooling Conceptualization: Conceptualize, design, and develop specialized jigs, fixtures, and springs tailored to meet exact customer specifications and strict tolerance requirements.
- Technical Drafting: Prepare comprehensive detailed fabrication drawings, full assembly drawings, and accurate layout drawings for manufacturing teams.
- Solution Engineering: Develop initial conceptualization designs and provide robust technical proposals to ensure customer objectives and functional requirements are achieved.
Project Management & Cost Estimation
- End-to-End Project Planning: Plan, execute, and manage mechanical design projects from the initial inquiry stage through to final commissioning.
- Resource & Cost Planning: Prepare highly accurate material requirements, cost estimates, and project timing estimates to ensure profitable and on-time delivery.
- Technical Reporting: Generate detailed design specifications, engineering reports, and system performance evaluations for internal management and external clients.
Customer Liaison & Sales Support
- Technical Consultation: Partner closely with the sales support team to liaise directly with customers regarding project specifications, design feasibility, and final system commissioning.
- Proposal Generation: Translate complex customer requirements into practical engineering proposals and actionable technical solutions.
Manufacturing Support & CNC Operations
- CAD/CAM Integration: Generate post-processing code directly from CAD/CAM software to bridge design models with manufacturing hardware.
- Machining Operations: Set up and operate CNC machines as required to support prototyping, custom part fabrication, or urgent manufacturing needs.
Standardization & Documentation
- Process Improvement: Actively assist in the development, refinement, and implementation of internal engineering standards, workflows, and best practices.
- Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous engineering documentation, revision logs, and technical manuals for all machinery and systems designed.
- General Duties: Perform any additional ad-hoc engineering or operational tasks as assigned by Management.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in 3D CAD modeling and drafting software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam).
- Machining Experience: Practical, hands-on experience with CNC machine setup and operation, including a solid understanding of G-code and standard tooling constraints.
- Domain Expertise: Proven track record in the specific design and fabrication of jigs, fixtures, and mechanical springs.
- Soft Skills: Strong cross-functional communication skills, adept at translating technical concepts for sales teams and non-technical clients, alongside strong project management capabilities.
