Role Summary
The Mould Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring mould quality, dimensional accuracy, and extended tooling life. This position directly supports both mass production stability and new product development (NPD) by optimizing productivity and minimizing defects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Tooling Development: Design and develop high-precision moulds, jigs, fixtures, and tooling for specialized ceramic manufacturing processes.
- Defect & Failure Analysis: Analyze mould wear, defects, and dimensional anomalies utilizing structured root-cause analysis methodologies.
- Lifecycle & Maintenance Management: Coordinate mould fabrication, modification, repair, and preventive maintenance, while monitoring overall mould life to establish refurbishment schedules.
- NPD & Validation Support: Support new product development by defining tooling specifications and validating mould designs prior to mass production.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and R&D teams to resolve tooling-related issues and maintain strict tolerance standards.
- Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Maintain technical specifications, engineering drawings, and maintenance records while leading projects to reduce tooling costs and setup times.
Engineering Authority
- Authorize recommendations for mould repairs, refurbishments, or complete replacements.
- Validate and approve mould readiness prior to official release into production.
- Issue stop-work directives on mould usage when tooling conditions risk product quality or personnel safety.
- Lead technical discussions and vendor management with external mould suppliers and tooling fabricators.
Requirements & Technical Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of hands-on mould or tooling engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Domain Knowledge: Prior experience in precision tooling, ceramic production, powder metallurgy, or injection moulding is highly advantageous.
- Software Proficiency: Strong background in CAD design tools, including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or equivalent software.
