About the Opportunity
Are you a senior underwriting specialist with technical expertise in Conventional Energy, Power Generation, Renewable Energy, or Construction/Engineering risks?
Randstad is currently partnering exclusively with a leading national reinsurance institution to recruit a Vice President, Specialty – Energy. Reporting directly to the Head of Specialty / Chief Underwriting Officer, this strategic leadership role will spearhead the growth, underwriting, and portfolio management of the group’s Energy Specialty division across regional Asian and international markets.
This mandate is crucial as the group expands its footprint across renewable energy assets (Solar, Wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems) while leveraging existing Property and Construction relationships to deliver multi-class underwriting solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Growth & Strategy: Develop and run the overarching Energy portfolio strategy, driving expansion across Conventional Energy, Power Generation, Renewables (Solar/Wind/BESS), and Energy-focused Engineering risks.
Technical Underwriting: Assess, price, and underwrite Treaty and Facultative reinsurance business within delegated authority limits.
Cross-Class Collaboration: Partner closely with internal Property and Construction teams to capitalize on multi-risk opportunities and client transition needs.
Business Origination: Cultivate relationships with specialist brokers, cedants, and MGAs across Asia and international markets to secure access to quality submissions and facilities.
Portfolio & Risk Governance: Monitor portfolio performance, pricing adequacy, catastrophe exposures, and accumulation control alongside Actuarial, Risk, and Retrocession teams.
Alternative Solutions: Design underwriting frameworks, rating tools, and delegated facility structures to strengthen competitiveness in the regional energy market.
Thought Leadership: Represent the institution at major regional energy conferences, market forums, and broker engagements to build brand visibility and thought leadership.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline. Professional insurance credentials (ACII or equivalent) are preferred.
Experience: Minimum 10+ years of underwriting experience, with significant depth in Energy, Power, Engineering, Construction, or Property Specialty Risks.
Reinsurance Expertise: Prior reinsurance experience is strongly preferred.
Market Network: Established network of broker and cedant relationships across Asia and/or global specialty markets.
Technical Depth: Deep understanding of energy-related engineering exposures, location hazards, loss records, and catastrophe modeling.
