Job Summary
The Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial performance and cost control of assigned projects. This includes tracking project budgets, verifying billing and claims, preparing project cost reports, and liaising with project and site teams to ensure proper cost allocation and contract compliance. The ideal candidate should have experience in project-based accounting, preferably within the construction or oil & gas industry.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, track, and report on project financials, including budgets, forecasts, costs, margins, and revenue recognition.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of project-related transactions in compliance with company policies and relevant financial standards (e.g., MFRS/IFRS).
Work closely with project managers and site teams to track project progress and validate cost-to-completion estimates.
Review and verify subcontractor claims, supplier invoices, and project-related expenditures.
Perform variance analysis between actuals and budgets/forecasts; identify and flag cost overruns or deviations.
Assist in the preparation of monthly project P&L reports and WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules.
Reconcile project accounts and ensure all project-related financial records are up to date.
Support internal and external audits related to project accounts.
Liaise with commercial, procurement, and contract teams to ensure contract terms are reflected accurately in financial reporting.
Ensure timely billing and collection of project milestones, VO (Variation Orders), and retention claims.
Participate in project closeout activities including final cost reporting and reconciliation.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in project accounting, preferably within EPCC, construction, oil & gas, or engineering industries.
Knowledge of contract accounting (e.g., MFRS 15 / IFRS 15 – Revenue from Contracts with Customers) is a strong advantage.
Familiarity with project costing tools or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, IFCA, or equivalent).
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
Good interpersonal and communication skills to work across departments and with external stakeholders.
Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
Experience handling multiple projects concurrently.
Familiarity with project billing, progressive claims, VO processing, and project budgeting.
