Randstad - one of the world’s leading recruitment agencies - today announced the winners of the 2018’s Most Attractive Employer in Malaysia. Hosted for the third consecutive year and based on the results from the Randstad Employer Brand Research, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has been crowned Most Attractive Employer in Malaysia for 2018. Oil and gas company Shell takes runner-up followed by food and drink company, Nestlé Malaysia.

Ryan Carroll, Country Director at Randstad Malaysia said, “We would like to congratulate the winners for their consistent performance in ensuring and promoting a powerful employer brand that resonates strongly with employees in Malaysia. In the three years that we have conducted this survey in Malaysia, we see more and more companies starting to evaluate and redesign their employer brand so as to enjoy the benefits it brings to their talent attraction and retention efforts. This is especially true for Malaysia where companies are constantly competing to hire, engage and retain the best people from a very limited talent pool.”

The awards are presented to the top three companies that have received the highest attractiveness score in the survey that job seekers in Malaysia will want to work for. The winners for this category are selected from the 75 largest employers in Malaysia based on local workforce size.

PETRONAS climbed one spot up this year to claim the award for 2018’s Most Attractive Employer after coming in second for the previous two years. The top three most attractive employers remained unchanged from last year.

Dato' Raiha Azni Abd Rahman, Senior Vice President, Group Human Resource Management, PETRONAS said, “At PETRONAS, we believe that talent is the most fundamental asset to our success as a leading oil and gas multinational. As a result, we have always been able to attract, motivate and retain the best of talents not only in Malaysia but in the countries we operate in. We offer vast career growth opportunities through a structured career, leadership and capability development programmes. We also place a great emphasis on diversity and inclusion as well as the creation of a conducive working environment for our people to flourish. Flexible working arrangements, newly designed workplace, unpaid study leave, extended maternity leave, returnee programmes (upon resignation) and improved medical benefits are some of the changes we have recently implemented. We are humbled by this honour; being able to be one of the top three winners for three years in a row is not an easy feat but we will not stop here. PETRONAS will always strive and raise the benchmark to stand out as the nation’s employer of choice.”

Celebrating its 18th edition globally, the awards based on the outcome of the Randstad Employer Brand Research are presented each year to the most attractive employers in 30 markets across the globe. It is the most representative and inclusive employer brand research in the world.

The outcomes are based on public perception and focus on three main areas: overall brand awareness, absolute attractiveness and relative attractiveness. This creates a level playing field for all competing companies instead of giving an advantage to large multinationals with higher name recognition than the smaller companies. The awards are not open for nomination and the results are based solely on the opinions and votes of the local workforce – making it the only award that is truly representing ‘the people’s choice’.

The 75 largest companies were selected in each participating market, usually with more than 1,000 employees. This list is presented to a representative cross section of respondents based on region, age and gender. The respondents were asked to identify companies they recognise and indicate if they would like to work for them. This was then followed up with an evaluation of attractiveness factors, such as salary, benefits, work atmosphere and job content and more, for each of the companies.
