KUALA LUMPUR, 19 April 2017 – Recruitment firm Randstad named Shell Malaysia as the most attractive employer in Malaysia for the second year running at the Randstad Employer Brand Award 2017 following the success of the inaugural event last year.

Remaining as the Most Attractive Employer for the second Randstad Employer Brand Award is Shell Malaysia with a total of 68.89% of all respondents who knew the company stating that they would like to work for them.

Malaysian Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) came in at close second place with an attractiveness score of 65.69%. Nestle Berhad took third place with 62.01%. These top 3 most attractive employers remained unchanged from last year.

The results have shown that Malaysian employees are still strongly attracted to the oil & gas sector in Malaysia despite a global slowdown of the industry in recent times.

Ms Farm Mooi Fung, Human Resources Director, Shell Malaysia noted, “We’re operating at a time that is constantly evolving and we must evolve at lightning speed alongside these changes. Understanding workforce trends and understanding what jobseekers are looking for will help us as industry leaders shape talent power houses of the future. We are as strong as our people who have entrusted us as their employer of choice, who have contributed to our efforts to be a responsible corporate citizen in the country, and whom we know will continue to power Malaysia’s progress one way or the other.”

Mr Ryan Carroll, Country Director of Randstad Malaysia said, "Following the positive reception of the Employer Brand Research from our inaugural event in 2016, we’re extremely proud to bring it back for the second year running as the research and awards are part of Randstad’s key global initiatives taking true ownership of the employer branding space.”

“Shell Malaysia, Petroliam Nasional and Nestle have all managed to keep their top 3 positions from the previous year, highlighting the painstaking effort that has gone into nurturing and maintaining their employer brands. As more and more organizations in Malaysia begin to see the benefits that employer brand has on their talent attraction and retention efforts, it will be very interesting to see how the employer brand strategies from our top 3 most attractive organizations evolve,” said Mr Carroll.

The Randstad Employer Brand Award, previously known as the Randstad Awards, is presented each year to the most attractive employer in 26 markets across the globe. It is based on the outcome of one of the world’s most representative and inclusive research into employer branding, covering over 160,000 global respondents.

The 75 largest companies are selected in each participating country, usually with more than 1,000 employees. This list is presented to a representative cross section of relevant respondents based on region, age, education and gender. In Malaysia, over 4,500 employees and job-seekers between the ages of 18-65 were surveyed.

about Randstad Employer Brand Research

Celebrating its 17th edition globally, the Randstad Employer Brand Research is presented each year to the most attractive employer in 26 markets across the globe, based on the findings of the most representative and inclusive employer brand research in the world.

The outcome of the Employer Brand Award is based on public perception and focuses on three main areas: overall brand awareness, absolute attractiveness and relative attractiveness. This creates a level playing field for all competing companies instead of giving an advantage to large multinationals with higher name recognition than smaller  companies. This award is not open for nomination and the results are based solely on the opinions and votes of the local workforce – making it the only award that is truly representing ‘the people’s choice’.

The 75 largest companies are selected in each participating country, usually with more than 1,000 employees. This list is presented to a representative cross section of relevant respondents based on region, age and gender. Respondents were asked to identify companies they recognize and indicate if they would like to work for them. This is then followed up with an evaluation of attractiveness factors, such as salary, benefits, work atmosphere and job content, for each of the companies.
