The Accounting Manager will serve as a critical link between corporate finance and fund operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the full cycle of corporate accounting for a Leading Asset Management Firm (Full Set Accounts), delivering insightful financial analysis and Management Reports, and crucially, managing the end-to-end accounting and administrative functions for all investment funds (Fund Accounting and Fund Administration). The successful candidate will ensure strict compliance with the Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia regulations and relevant accounting standards (MFRS/IFRS).
II. Key Responsibilities
A. Full Set Corporate Accounting & Financial Management
General Ledger: Oversee the maintenance of the General Ledger, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all financial records for the management company.
Statutory Reporting: Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes. Independently prepare annual audited financial statements for the corporate entity, adhering to Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS) and relevant regulatory body requirements.
Audit & Tax: Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax agents, and company secretary to ensure timely completion of annual statutory audits and corporate tax submissions.
Cash Management: Oversee treasury functions, including cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and timely management of accounts payable and receivable.
B. Management Reporting & Strategic Analysis
Reporting Packages: Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual Management Information System (MIS) reports, including variance analysis against budget and forecasts.
Performance Analysis: Monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to the firm’s operational efficiency and profitability.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead and support the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting cycles for the management company's operational expenditure.
Decision Support: Provide clear, data-driven financial insights and recommendations to the Head of Finance and Senior Management team to aid in strategic planning and operational improvements.
C. Fund Accounting (NAV & Valuation)
NAV Calculation: Direct the accurate and timely calculation of Net Asset Values (NAVs) for all managed funds (e.g., unit trusts, private mandates, wholesale funds).
Portfolio Accounting: Oversee the recording of all fund investment transactions, including trades, corporate actions, interest, and dividends.
Valuation: Ensure compliance with the fund's investment mandates and valuation policies, reviewing and validating the fair value of investment portfolios.
Fund Financials: Prepare and review the financial statements and investor reports for the funds, ensuring compliance with relevant fund accounting standards.
D. Fund Administration & Regulatory Compliance
Regulatory Filing: Prepare and review all accounting-related submission documents required by the Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia and other local regulatory bodies.
Fund Operations: Manage key fund administrative processes, including capital calls, distributions, redemptions, and investor unit/share reconciliation.
Governance: Maintain and periodically update accounting policies, internal controls, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for both the management company and its managed funds.
Transfer Agency: Oversee the transfer agency function (if internal), ensuring accurate maintenance of the register of unit/shareholders.
III. Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or equivalent.
Professional Certification: Must possess a recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g., MIA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA).
Experience: Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
Industry Experience: Mandatory prior experience in the Asset Management, Fund Management, or Fund Administrator industry in Malaysia is required.
Technical Skills:
Expert knowledge of MFRS/IFRS, and local tax regulations.
Deep familiarity with fund accounting principles (e.g., NAV calculation, performance fee/carried interest calculations).
Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Competencies: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, strong leadership skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
