About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Costing Engineer to join our dynamic semiconductor manufacturing team.
This critical role is instrumental in establishing precise, transparent, and auditable cost models across the entire value chain, from wafer fabrication through assembly and final testing. You will act as the key liaison bridging Engineering, Finance, and Operations, ensuring all product pricing, margin analysis, and profitability decisions are grounded in accurate technical and financial data.
Key Responsibilities
This position requires a hands-on approach to technical cost analysis and financial reporting compliance:
Cost Model Development: Develop, maintain, and own the end-to-end cost models for semiconductor products (covering wafer, die, assembly, and test stages).
Manufacturing Cost Analysis: Perform deep-dive analysis on operational data, including yield, process cycle time, and material usage, to accurately determine and validate true manufacturing costs.
Variance Reporting: Conduct detailed cost variance and margin analysis by comparing standard costs against actual production expenditures.
New Product Introduction (NPI) Support: Support the NPI process by preparing rapid early cost estimates and formally validating Bill of Materials (BOM) and process routings.
Strategic Simulation: Conduct "what-if" simulations to quantitatively evaluate the financial impact of proposed process changes, yield fluctuations, or design modifications.
Cost Optimization: Proactively collaborate with Process, Yield, and Product Engineering teams to identify and drive cost-down and efficiency opportunities.
Financial Compliance: Prepare regular cost roll-up reports and dashboards for management, ensuring strict compliance with financial accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS) and internal cost policies.
ERP Integration: Oversee the on-time and compliant integration of cost standards and reports within the ERP system.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, or Manufacturing).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in product costing or cost engineering within the semiconductor or electronics industry.
- Strong understanding of wafer fabrication, assembly, and test cost drivers.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP / Oracle) and advanced Excel modelling.
- Hands-on experience in analyzing yield, test time, and package cost impact.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
Nice to Have
Experience in Power BI / Tableau / VBA for data visualization and reporting.
Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and leading cost optimization projects.
Knowledge of outsourced assembly and test (OSAT) costing models.
Professional certification (CMA / CPA / CIMA) is an advantage.
Key Results You’ll Drive
Improved accuracy of cost models and variance tracking visibility.
Achieved quantifiable cost savings through process and yield optimization initiatives.
Delivery of reliable cost visibility essential for precise product pricing and margin control.
Guaranteed on-time and compliant cost reporting within the ERP system.
